Fitting data

A key concept in grounded theory methodology is that of ‘fit’, in that codes and categories used in analysis must fit the data. That is the coding scheme must be modified to fit the data, rather tan data forced into existing codes and categories.

GT is inducted from systematically collected facts, which in the process for generating GT from data, constantly verifies its fit, relevance and workability, and adjusts (modifies the concepts and their relationships) the theory to the facts to achieve fit, relevance and workability.(Glaser, 2003, ¶4)
