Geertz, Clifford

Clifford Geertz (1926 – 2006) was an influential American anthropologist who did fieldwork in Indonesia and Morocco, and then worked in the Institute of Advanced Studies at Princeton (where Einstein completed his career). He theorised about the nature of culture and ethnographic work as well as reporting specific ethnographic accounts (e.g., the significance of the traditional cockfights in Bali).
